This was a collaborative website creation project sponsored by Give Something
Back International. Each of our three teachers applied to work on the
project and we were assigned to each other to be GVC04 teammates. Both
Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Morden had previous experience working on an ATT Virtual
Classroom project. Mr. Whiteoak did not, but enthusiastically agreed to
have his students give this project a try.
In the beginning we had to pick what kind of website we were going to
make. Students from all three countries gave ideas and then we voted for
a game website. After that we started to talk about what kind of game
we were going to make. We also voted on that and decided on a futuristic
game.
Canada then helped us get started by posting topic ideas. We decided that
we couldn't work on the topic unless we had a representative from each
country. Final topics were chosen in December. Students from the UK, Canada,
and US posted questions, websites, ideas for activities or contests, and
surveys for each topic. The US was able to ask other students in their
schools to participate in several contests and surveys.
Ideas for the storyline of the game were also given and students agreed
on a haunted house and magic box that would send to you 7004. A number
of students gave terrific ideas at the beginning so we decided to incorporate
as many as possible into our final product. Students started writing conversation
and giving feedback for each scene in January.
After the scenes were established students started drawing pictures to
go along with them. In the meantime, students were researching information
for the pop-ups, quizzes, and slideshows of each country.
A flurry of activity by the US team during the last week of the contest
enabled us to complete a website that we are proud of. We wish we had
more information from all three countries, but that's something we may
be able to do after the judging period is over.
